In our 5th episode, our Gary Ablett Senior episode (one for the Aussie Rules fans out there) we keep it pretty simple, but throw up a wrench in the order by hitting our hot & cold kits right off the top, before then getting into the news that Brentford FC have gone against the modern tradition of kit releasing in the Premier League, before finishing on our jersey adjustments for the week!
HOT KITS
New York Giants - All white, blue numbers with red trim, 'Giants' on the helmets.
A very nice first pick from Shea, despite David still licking his wounds from a single digit, three interception effort from Jalen Hurts on his fantasy team (he miraculously won the week in the end, so all good) - the Giants rocked a solid clean look in working their way to a tough it out dub.
2. Tampa Bay Rowdies - Green & Yellow, we will forever Stan this combo.
While they sadly fell in the championship game during recording, the story of the Rowdies USL season is still incredible, particularly their 'Miracle in St Pete' comeback in the Eastern Conference Final in which, 0-2 down with just 10 to go, they came back and won 3-2 after ET. David has long casually followed the squad after a couple twitter homies started a podcast for the team (shoutout Unused Substitutes, Matt & Dan - who are both in the below picture) and loved seeing these incredible kits in some incredible action. Green and yellow, horizontal stripes, Hard Rock sponsorship, and Nike. What a combo.
3. Uni Matchup - Oregon vs Oregon State. Green vs Orange. COLOR VS COLOUR.
The matchup formerly known as The Civil War, the Dari Mart Duel, big brother vs little brother, between Oregon and Oregon State threw us a great modern uni matchup, with Oregon's green taking on the deep orange of the Beavers. Oregon won comfortably. SCODUCKS.
4. Borussia Dortmund Away & Erling Haaland's epic celebration with fan.
Borussia Dortmund have been desperate for their talisman to be back, and boy was he back. After returning much earlier than the anticipated 2022 return, he turned in the goal that put Dortmund well and truly beyond Wolfsburg. In their sleek black away kit, he celebrated by pointing at a fan who made her own piece of history with an epic return of serve. Go to 3:29 in the video below to see!
5. Steph Curry. Again.
Man just keeps doing insane shit and finding himself in our list for hot kits. This time an unreal pass under the basket to set up his vet running mate in Draymond Green for the bucket.
Warriors were rocking their 2021/22 City kit for the occasion.
Alrighty, onto the big news...
Brentford FC in the Premier League have announced, going against the trend, that their home kit will remain throughout the 22/23 season, as well as the current season. The trend in the last 10-15 years has been teams release a new kit every year, providing even more reason for fans to purchase more kits and fill the team pockets. While merchandise is great, and we love kits - obviously - it is a questionable practice when compared with other sports main kits remaining relatively the same across a multitude of years. Shea and David discuss the news, praise Brentford, and discuss the entire issue at length.
KIT CHANGES!
Our new segment that debuted in Episode #4, we give our one hypothetical kit addition/change we would make if we were in control.
DAVID - Nominates, in tribute to the end of Ole Time at Manchester United, a tribute of a wheel added to the next home kit, in recognition of his great service for every other club in the land. "Ole's at the wheel, at the wheel, Ole's at the wheeeeeel!"
Ronaldo loves it!
SHEA - Shea sticks with one of his hot kits and wishes the Giants would go with that look a little more permanently as a change, bringing some class to the end of the podcast after David shamelessly shit on the Ole legacy in Manchester.
Thanks as always for listening, watching, reading - let us know if we have missed anything from the blog in the contact form and we can fit it up (I did this super quickly and super tired because, life).
