We digress a lot in this episode.
Hence the title!
But, I digress.
In this episode the main talking point is NUMBERS. The numbers we like, the iconic ones, the most aesthetically pleasing, etc. In future special episodes we will deep dive more on particular numbers, their history, the best and worst players to wear them, etc. This episode is simply an introduction to the idea of appreciating this particular aspect of enjoying jerseys, a chat purely from the heart of our history with kit numbers.
But first, we digress.
Cards! We'll chat cards a lot. Some of our favourite cards are those that come with a bit of memorabilia in them, such as the example below. So we chat a bit about some alternative ideas for future memorabilia cards. Unsure if they'll take them on but hey, check our contact details if you want to bring us on board.
However, we digress.
Crypto.com arena. WTF. But actually, like Staples was just a corporate name as well. Why do we care? We chat a bit about the unique relationship so many sports fans have with an arena that is quite young relative to some of the icons such as Wrigley Field, Anfield, Adelaide Oval, etc - yet are still lamenting its loss. Maybe the stark contrast to such a "dot com" name compared to the simplicity of Staples has something to do with it? Whatever it may be, we chat about it.
Anyway, we digress.
NUMBERS!
We fuckin' love numbers. Couldn't be sports fans without that really, could we? But in particular, we absolutely love the aesthetic of kit numbers. There are so many iconic numbers through the sports we have loved all our lives, there are players that are elevated by numbers, and there are numbers that for some inexplicable reason we just do not like all that much.
Future episodes will see us focus on particular numbers for an episode, but for now this as a very general chat to introduce how we will talk about them in the future. Listen to hear what we think, and for Shea to sing incredibly shit/super not cool variations on the famous "Fernando Torres, Liverpool's Number 9" song.
Massive digression there.
HOTTEST KITS OF THE WEEK!
Miami Heat City 21/22 - David
We kind of digressed earlier and talked the Miami Heat City Kit, but this is one of the hottest kits of the week due to the very awesome customisation that Miami offers on their website. You can have any combination of the numbers they are offering to customise the kit to your exact desire, as well as choose the 'Player Choice' option for the particular player you may be wanting to emulate. SO FUCKING AWESOME. Miami have killed the game for years in this arena, and despite having gone away from the Vice look after a hugely successful run, they still are.
2. New England Patriots Home Kit MAC JONES BABY - David.
Shea HATES David for this one, but with a rookie in Mac Jones leading the Pats roaring back into playoff contention, it could not be denied. The Pats are finally emerging from the shadows of the Brady era, and while he has done just fine away from Foxborough, Bill is relishing being able to develop the next GOAT. Mac plays with a similar swagger that shows that its always about the next play, regardless of what happened on the previous one - similar to that Brady bloke. The Pats home kits, having adopted the colour rush from a couple years previous, are a great one to get around right now - particularly #10. *This was recorded before the win over the Falcons, hence a mention of 4 wins in a row, not five.
LA Chargers Powder Blue Justin Herbert #10
"They didn't actually play that well, but they looked good losing" - to paraphrase Shea from the podcast, his hottest kit is one so hot that it can make up for a bad performance: The Chargers in their iconic powder blue and yellow pant combo. Herbert is having a sophomore year to prove his rookie year was no fluke, despite some rough losses, and this kit is already looking like it could be iconic in the future with the Eugene kid slinging it. Get around an all timer 🔥 #10 as well, just loving that number right now!
2. Steph Warriors Classic. Again. Because the dude is amazing - Shea.
We don't need to explain this at this point, do we? Man is fucking 🔥
COLDEST KIT.
LA Rams Bone White. WTF IS GOING ON?!
The Rams have gone all in with some moves the past few weeks, but as they have they have inexplicably dropped some games in embarrassing fashion to teams they never should have. After pacing the NFL in the early running, they've fallen back to the pack a bit and in these kits, they really look horrible doing it. The Rams are all in, but we are all out on these.
Last but certainly not least, we debut a new segment - but you'll have to listen/watch for that one!
As usual, rate/review/subscribe etc!
Cheers! Jersey Boys ooout.
